Actually, ever since I heard about and joined in on the Oblivion Crisis I've been sharing my thoughts and ideas on a game involving the life and times of mortals and using them for my own amusement although making them think it's theirs. But the original plans differed, because I was to suit up in the flesh and walk among the mortals instead of centering the story around a table, as something called "live action roleplay" or LARP for short. It would have been set in Bleaker's Way a few years after the invasion from Oblivion and focus on the experiences of the less significant people of Tamriel like the farmer, the peddler and the novice mage. In the end language became enough of a hurdle to stall these events and with the expansion of history following the crisis have changed several of the original conditions. Perhaps one day this tug at the life of mortals will also come to pass... Only Hermaeus Mora can tell.
The emergence of the dovahkiin inspired me anew to stick my paws into mortal affairs but with another approach, this time trading an entire village for a handful or people and expanding one weekend of intrigue to weekly episodes of struggle. So I reined in some individuals that could call Tamriel home or shown willingness to explore this new world through the actions of Dragonborn, gathering five to start with.
As far as rules or "system" of my little game I decided to transfer the possibilities and limitations from Dark Heresy, which is set in the Warhammer 40000 universe for the simple reason that it's something I'm familiar and fits my vision. Of course there has been some adaptions, like the addition of perks.
I created a group in the plane of gossip called Book of Faces so that a few things could be agreed upon. The group was given the name "Fear and Racism across Tamriel" as a reference to the movie "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas" and homage to my love of cultural clashes and racial hatred and the conflicts these cause. So much in fact that I urge my "pets" to be narrow-minded when it comes to other races, especially the ones they have a reason to dislike such as dunmer versus argonians. And naturally these pages adopted the same name.
Mixing a vigilant of Stendarr with an orcish full-plate assassin and a Thalmor wereboar isn't a good idea so I wanted a general theme of the group to be determined and it was decided that laws were not gonna be a hurdle for them but that they all retain a level of conscience and right or wrong. If you need to label them I guess they range somewhere between chaotic good to chaotic neutral. And because of this less honourable stance on things they decided they would be a stealthy gang, opting ambushes and traps over charging head on clad in full plate. And lastly I had them decide upon the basis of the plot; where they mercenaries out for fame and fortune, a band of bandits trying to root in a city or religious assassins? My pawns wanted to be set up and fight for vindication!
After passing dates back and forth we set a date; 22nd of Januari 2012!
No offense but you really dont say anything about what this is about or get anywhere with it. If you want followers and people who red this, you should get to the point of it faster.
ReplyDeleteWait, would you happen to be xXGalenXx from the Nexus Forums? This sounds very familiar...
DeleteIf not, then you have my apologies. In short I'd like to ask you what it is you want to know and I will try to answer your question without divulging too much from a future post.
To be frank, my main goal is not to collect a huge number of followers but rather to share my experience, ideas and thoughts on how to Dungeon Master a campaign set in the Elder Scrolls universe. I am aware it's not a read suitable for everyone.
Do you still have plans to host that larp? because it sounds awesome!! enough that i would consider coming north to attend
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I still would like to host a LARP set in this universe. But, as I mentioned in the post, the language barrier became too much of an issue so me and my accomplice put the project on ice. Perhaps in time I will give it another try, maybe try hosting in the UK to make it easier to get people who want to roleplay in english.
DeleteThank you, by the way. The idea sounds awesome to myself too, even if that seems a bit narcissistic. It still emerges from the depths of my creativity and is with tweaks still a viable scenario.
